Pulseware vs Tally

Two products that give away what everyone else charges for. The differences are narrower than most comparison pages pretend — so here is every one of them, dated, sourced and linked. Ours costs at least 25% less on every paid plan. Tally is still better at 14 things, and they are listed too.

The honest half

Where Tally is the better choice

14 of the 48 rows above go Tally's way. If one of these matters to you, stay where you are — a cheaper tool that cannot do the job is not cheaper.

  • File upload size, paid plan

Tally: Pro removes the per-file size limit. Pulseware: 5 GB per file.

5 GB is the most a single direct upload supports on our stack. If your respondents send bigger files than that, Tally wins this row.

What you keep when you switch

The reason people pick Tally over Typeform or SurveyMonkey — real features on a genuinely free plan — is the same reason they pick us. None of it is what you give up.

Plus two things Tally does not have: a Logic tab with a flow map instead of inline logic blocks, and a one-switch conversational layout.

Switching

Switch in ten minutes

The importer reads a Tally form through Tally's own API — with a key you paste once and we never store — or from a JSON file if you would rather not share a key. It rebuilds the form here as a draft and hands you a report of anything it could not map one-for-one.

Prefer the detail first? How the importer works covers both input options and what the import report tells you.

Ten minutes, start to finish

The switching checklist

Eleven things to tick off. Nothing here is sent to us — the ticks live in this browser.

  1. Open the Tally importer
  2. What the import report tells you
  3. How logic and scoring work here
  4. Connecting your survey to other tools
  5. Sharing and embedding a survey

Stuck on a step? Tell us where you got to and we will walk through it with you.

The questions people actually ask before switching — price, imports, what breaks, and what Tally still does better.

Is Pulseware actually cheaper than Tally?
Yes, on every paid plan and both billing periods, by at least 25%. Pro is US$21 a month against Tally's US$29; Business is US$66 against US$89. Both free plans cost nothing. One thing to watch: Tally's pricing page shows US$24 a month by default, which is its yearly price divided by twelve, not its monthly rate. The price calculator works out the difference over one to three years.
What does Tally do that Pulseware does not?
Quite a few things, and we list all 14 of them on this page. The big ones: payments inside the form, custom domains, team workspaces, a public API, connectors for AI assistants, 50+ interface languages, a much larger template library and a much deeper help centre. If any of those is load-bearing for you, stay with Tally — read where Tally is the better choice before you switch.
Can I import my Tally forms?
Yes. The Tally importer takes either a Tally API key or an exported JSON file and rebuilds the form here as a draft: questions, options, pages, endings, hidden fields, calculated fields and most conditional logic. It copies questions, not responses, so export your submissions from Tally as CSV first. The step-by-step version is in the switching guide.
Does Pulseware have a free plan like Tally does?
Yes, and it works the same way: unlimited surveys, unlimited responses, every question type, conditional logic, calculations, hidden fields, answer piping, custom endings, every embed style, CSV and Excel export and the whole integration list — all free, subject to the published fair use thresholds. Those thresholds are deliberately the same numbers Tally publishes.
How do I know these comparisons are current?
Every Tally row on this page was read on Tally's own pages on 18 Sep 2026, and each row links to the exact page it came from so you can check it yourself. We reopen every source at least every 30 days. If something has moved since, the row changes — including in Tally's favour.
What happens to the responses already sitting in Tally?
They stay in Tally. Export them as CSV before you switch — Submissions, then download — and keep the file. The importer brings the form across, not the answers. If you need old and new answers in one place, tell us and we will help line the columns up.
Is the one-question-at-a-time layout really different?
A little. Both products can show one question per screen; Pulseware does it with a single conversational-layout switch, while in Tally you add a page break after each question. Same result for the respondent, fewer steps for you. It is a convenience, not a capability gap, and we would rather say so.
Where is Pulseware run from?
Pulseware is Australian-owned, with app servers in Sydney; some processors are overseas. Tally is a Belgian company and stores form data in Europe. Neither is automatically better — pick the one whose region suits your buyers and your legal advice. Our security page has the detail on ours.

How this page was created

Every Tally fact on this page was read on Tally's own published pages on 18 Sep 2026 — pricing, the Pro and Business help pages, the block reference, the form settings list, the embed, integration, API, import and fair-use articles, and the changelog. Each row in the table links to the page it came from.

Pulseware's cells are generated from our plan definitions in code, not written by hand, so this page cannot claim something the product does not do. Prices, limits and plan gates change here the moment they change in the product.

We reopen every Tally source at least every 30 days and republish whatever moved, including rows that move in Tally's favour. Found something out of date? Tell us and we will fix it and re-date the page.
